An Elk Grove man involved an alleged domestic violence incident was arrested after he attacked a K-9 unit yesterday afternoon.

According to Elk Grove Police, 24-year old Tracy Spencer was involved in a domestic violence incident where he reportedly punched his victim in the face and interfered with attempts to call police. Prior to police arriving the suspect fled the residence.

After fleeing several calls came into police dispatch regarding Spencer who was seen running through residential backyards north of the location. Officers began checking the area and located the suspect hiding under items inside a shed in a backyard.

Officers gave Spencer several commands to surrender but he refused to comply with the officers commands and would not leave the location where he was hiding. An EGPD K9 was deployed in an attempt to take him into custody.

In an attempt to evade arrest, the suspect grabbed the K9 by the throat using a “choke hold.” The K9 was able to break free and re-engaged the suspect.

Spencer was taken into custody after the K9 deployment and was arrested then transported to a local area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the deployment. The suspect was later cleared for incarceration and transported to the main jail where remains in custody on parole violations.
