An unknown suspect carjacked and attempted to kidnap a women at gunpoint at an Elk Grove shopping center late yesterday morning.

According to Elk Grove Police, the 19-year old female victim was inside her car on the 9600 block of Bruceville Road when she was confronted by an unknown suspect who brandished a handgun wrapped in a cloth. When the victim attempted to roll up her window, the suspect placed his arm on the window and would not allow her to roll up the window.

The suspect entered the car and shoved the victim to the passenger seat. The carjacker initially started to drive away with the victim in the car but another vehicle honked their horn and the suspect then stopped the car and told the victim to get out.

The victim was able retrieve her purse but the suspect took her cell phone and drove away. The suspect was was described as a Hispanic male, 6’1”, 250 lbs, with brown eyes and long hair in a pony tail and was wearing a blue short sleeve shirt, white collared t-shirt, blue denim pants and white shoes.

The stolen car was described as a 2002 maroon Mitsubishi Galant CA Lic #5EEW575. The vehicle has a dent on the right rear along with a baby on board placard in the rear window.
