food truck event on Wed., Feb 6. |
Since Elk Grove's purchase last fall from Union Pacific Railroad, the vacant lot in Old Town on Elk Grove Blvd. has already hosted a seasonal ice rink and more recently a one night food truck event.

According to City of Elk Grove public information officer Christine Brainerd, the Old Town Plaza is available for use and the public is being encouraged to use it.

"Currently requests should be submitted to the City Manager through Ask Elk Grove," Brainerd said. "We will establish an application process that will be promoted when available."

Brainerd said a fee schedule has not been established and city staff will evaluate any costs that should be recovered in proposing a fee for Council’s consideration. Users will need to provide insurance and basic services, such as trash, restrooms, power and furnishings.

Brainerd also noted the Rain Garden near Ctiy Hall which opened last Spring is also available for use.

Right now, with the chain link fencing around it, it looks like a toxic waste dump or something.

So how much did Gary Davis pay to have a campaign event at the property. Don't think it wasn't a campaign event, his campaign signs were at the event and included on the invite.

Where are the community activists calling for an ethics investigations? If this were Hume or Detrick we would have received 10 page long emails by now.

Having campaign material on City property is illegal even if you are Gary Davis.

Nimby is just as much a dirty word as activist. Maybe the "activists" have done something. Maybe the "activists" haven't done anything. Maybe the "activists" are taking a different approach. Maybe the "activists" are waiting to see what else happens. And no, I am not an activist you speak of but am damn grateful they exist!

Mayor Davis had a table set up at the even with volunteers distributing the brown bags he gave out during the mayoral campaign. Behind the same table the was also a sign that said "Gary Davis Mayor" that appears to be similar to what was used in his campaign.

Why do people have to be so negative on here? Geez!

Perhaps because we have a Mayor who seems to think his job is "Events Chairman" when we have empty storefronts, no jobs, foreclosed homes & more. I believe we just expect more from someone in that position and that is to spend some time trying to fix EG. Please, someone put up a Neon sign with "Gary Davis Mayor" on it so he can get off his duff and do what he was elected to do.

Callin' like you see it is being truthful. If the truth is negative, then so be it. Maybe the taxpayers don't appreciate spending a million dollars for this property so it can be used for 'Fluff' Davis's campaign stage.

Come to the city council meeting on Wednesday during Public Comment.
I'll have some interesting news from the Fair Political Practices Commission.
It's right to be concerned about how these politicians spend our time, money, and public spaces on their political ambitions.
It was Davis who admonished me at a recent city council meeting about the meaning of democracy; how he is an elected representative, and that appointing his choice for his city council member seat was an exercise in democracy.
He's in for a surprise on Wednesday.

With all due respect Mr. Monasky, people threaten "big surprises" and then never produce. After so many "wait and see" moments I've come to the conclusion that most everyone is full of hot air and there is no "surprise." As long as the city council leaves me alone I will continue to go along minding my own business. Nothing changes...just the names and faces.
