August 30, 2013 |

During the August 28 Elk Grove City Council meeting that saw the unanimous approval of the liberalization of the city's highway billboard rules, there was one common thread during public testimony and council deliberations - uniform praise of the city planning department.

Everyone from representatives of multi-national corporations pushing for the liberalization to the council's most stealthy member, all heaped praise on the city's planning department. Interestingly aside from Mayor Gary Davis' brief mention of correspondences he received, there was no spoken opposition to the proposal.

If we are to intuitively interpret the comments, it seems liberalization stakeholders met with city staff, perhaps in a group meeting[s], and gave their input on how they wanted the regulations changed. Not surprisingly, the city council fully intended to approve this plan based on the comments and the amount of staff time dedicated to liberalizing the rules.

Watch the video below.

So it goes.

Is it me, or did hiz honor Mayor Davis seemed half-hearted in his endorsement of staff and with his yes vote?

He seemed to be projecting a message that said "I was given a boatload of money for my vote, but I know my 'street cred' with my supporters in tarnished."

Well Mr. Mayor you can't please everyone and is is clear who you support on most matters.

I agree Jill. Davis appears to be losing his edge as mayor, if he ever had any control at all. Detrick recuses himself because it is the law, and Davis states, “We are going to miss you.” And then looking at the others on council for support, after seeing no reaction to such a childish, idiotic comment, Davis then says, “Okay, I will miss you then.” What is this kindergarten Davis?

So I wonder how much missing Davis will be doing when Detrick tries to take his job away from him?
