Manslaughter Trial of Suspected Elk Grove Drunk Driver Scheduled to Start This Week

The trial of an Elk Grove woman accused of drunk driving with manslaughter charges is scheduled to start this Wednesday more than two years after the incident.

Heile Gantan allegedly was driving a car on May 29, 2011 that flipped killing one of her passengers, Oscar Ivan Camero of Elk Grove. Gantan and another passenger, LaDonna Torres of Elk Grove, alledgedly fled the accident scene leaving Camero, who later died.

Gantan faces charges on vehicular manslaughter, driving under  the influence causing injury and fleeing the scene of the accident. Torres will also be tried in the same case on charges of fleeing the scene of an accident.

Representing Gantan is noted criminal defense attorney Don Masuda. The prosecution is being handled by deputy district attorney Kari Reeve.   

The trial, which has been rescheduled twice, is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. this Wednesday in Department 9 of the Sacramento Superior Court.
