A store employee was pepper sprayed by a suspected shoplifter at an Elk Grove store Sunday night.

According to Elk Grove Police, two unknown suspects were observed shoplifting by loss prevention employees at Elk Grove's Burlington Coat Factory on East Stockton Blvd. When the employees approached the two suspects after they left the store, who were described as a female and male Hispanics, the female suspect pepper sprayed the employee.

The suspects fled without the merchandise and drove away in an unknown vehicle and unknown direction.
