An Elk Grove resident came home yesterday afternoon to discover that their house was being burglarized.

According to Elk Grove Police, the victim arrived at their home on the 9300 block of Mapleview Way to discover that a burglary was in progress. After being discovered, the suspect fled the area on foot.

The caller provided police with a physical description and the direction of the suspect's travel. Police officers established a perimeter and located the 16-year old male suspect near Springmont Drive and Backer Court.

The suspect was detained and found to be in possession of property taken during the burglary and was positively identified by witnesses as being the person who fled from the residence. The youth was taken into custody then transported to juvenile hall.

Keep spoon feeding us those phony stats about violent crime being down. It is this personal property and vandalism stuff that is more frequent and more apt to directly impact us than a violent crime.

When the Mayor spoke at Wednesday night's meeting comparing Elk Grove's crime rate to Folsom's, he was not quite accurate. Folsom is much smaller than Elk Grove and is in a different class size city.

But let's not worry, as long as we build plenty of wayfinding signs, more billboard signs and malt liquor stops along our freeways, we will really become a destination city! Too bad it is the wrong crowd we will be drawing.
