All Elk Grove Council Members Economic Interests Statements Filed; No Starbucks?

March 31, 2014 |

As of this afternoon, all of the Elk Grove City Council Members have filed their legally required statements of economic interests.

Of the five Elk Grove City Council Members, the member who made the biggest splash in recent months with regard to their activities outside of city business has been Mayor Gary Davis.

In April, 2013 Davis stealthily opened a new business called Civic Innovations Public Affairs. Subsequent to that the website for that enterprise is no longer active, but no abandonment statement has been filed with Sacramento County.

Last fall Davis launched his second venture, Grace Coffee Roasters. Not long after that, Davis purchased the coffee kiosk on the corner of Elk Grove-Florin Road and Elk Grove Boulevard to much fanfare.

As part of the media blitz focused on the mayor's opening of the drive-thru coffee shop, Davis noted in at least two television news reports that the purchase of the structure was made possible in-part by the sale of his holdings in Starbucks stock.

In his papers filed today with the Elk Grove City Clerk's office, Davis listed himself as a co-owner of the sole proprietor venture that he valued between $10,001 and $100,000. The disclosure said the venture had a gross income of less than $499.

According to FPPC rules, and as seen in the economic interests statement filed by Elk Grove Council Member Bob Trigg, elected officials must disclose any marketable security with a value greater than $2,000 that does business in the jurisdiction of that official.

None of Davis' statements filed with the Elk Grove City Clerk's office show ownership of stock in Starbucks Coffee. Starbucks has operated in Elk Grove since at least the time Davis assumed office.

Looks like either more lies from the mayor or something worse and more devious.

Why can't these electeds just be HONEST!
- What a novel idea that would be!

More lies from a dishonest politician. Davis has become a parasite on our city. He has been caught is so many lies over the past two years and he refuses to step up and accept responsibility.

He needs to be replaced, sooner the better.

The city looks more and more like Bell every day. We need a serious housecleaning. Our citizens need to wake up and see what's happening to our city.

Perhaps the FPPC needs to get involved. They seem to have our number on speed dial these days. Per the Channel 3 piece, Davis clearly admits selling his "Starbucks" stock; yet no Starbuck stocks appear on his financial disclosure statements. Oversight? Forgetfulness? Criminal? Crooked? This council continues to embarrass our city. Shame on them! Mayor Davis can you please explain?????????????

I'm with Anon @ 8:31.
Well, Mr. Mayor???? We're waiting?
Are you a liar or are you a cheat?
You're obviously one or the other.

BTW: It is so wrong to promote your personal business on the City website. You're a parasite as well.

The only difference between the cesspool at the State Senate and Assembly for that matter and Elk Grove or other political backwaters like Elk Grove is size and the FBI. The smart money is in places like Elk Grove because while the money is not as big as in Sacramento, the FBI does not have the resources to go after these small fish, unless you become like Bell.

Sure, you may have to deal with some inquisitive citizens, but it isn't thing that a well-timed demeaning comment at a public forum or employment threat can't take care of.

I just don't see why more people aren't concerned with this issue of our mayor either lying about his stock holdings too the public or his blatant unlawful and unethical attempt to not divulge the information as required by law.

Does anyone else out there care about our local government and what kind of character and integrity they possess?

Davis really need to come clean on this issue? Are you a liar or a cheat, as they poster above asked?

Your failure to reply will likely have act as my answer, as I'll have no other reasonable option available to me.

What can I say...we have a Mayor who acts and uses the City as though it were his own little Empire. As the sayin' goes "give him enough rope and he will finally hang himself."

I emailed Gary and asked him. He wrote back that the value of the Starbucks' stock was less than $2,000. Therefore, he was not required to disclose.

He can't talk for himself?
Gotta have his lackies speak for him?
Maybe Connie should take his seat on the dais since she's his spokesperson. She certainly couldn't do any worse.

I appreciate Connie getting that information, but Gary really has an obligation to all of his constituents to communicate and set the record set. I'm not saying Connie is wrong; but what if she mis-spoke??? Gary was elected to lead...SO DO IT MAYOR...SPEAK FOR YOURSELF!
(by the way, thanks Connie!)

Okay, that’s funny! There were a lot of assumptions made here and so I went directly to the source. Isn't that what we are taught to do?

Anyone who knows me and my involvement in Elk Grove politics and our city government knows I am an EOC (Equal Opportunity Citizen) as I hold all of them to the same high standards. No one gets a pass. If you don’t believe me, ask Gary as I have taken him to task many times.

But hey, call me a lackie. I’ve been called worse! At least I post under my own name so the “Anons” of Elk Grove News know who I am when they call me names.

Those of us who do what we do know full well in getting involved and holding government accountable, you are going to take hits. As I heard recently from Dr. Brene Brown, "If you contribute, you are going to get nailed." But we do it anyway because, as we have seen of late, it needs to be done.

And to the poster above, thank you!

Thank you Ms. Conley for gathering that information from the mayor.

It is unfortunate that the Mayor has distorted the story of the sale of his Starbucks stock to purchase his business. It just makes you wonder how many other distortions the mayor has perpetrated upon his supporters, much less Elk Grove taxpayers.

As noted above, he has no shame.
