An Elk Grove man was arrested late Friday night after he allegedly crashed his car while driving under the influence and resisted arrest.

According to Elk Grove Police, 35-year old William Contreras crashed his car into a fixed object near Sheldon and Grantline roads and fled the scene on foot. Responding officers located him a short distance away near his residence.

Contreras was identified by a witness as being the driver of the vehicle. Upon contact, the suspect displayed objective signs of impairment, was uncooperative and refused to comply with directions.

Officers were able to take Contreras to the ground where he was arrested then placed in a restraint system. The suspect was medically cleared for incarceration then transported to the county jail.
