Elk Grove Police Chief Robert Lehner is one of four finalists being considered for the chief of police of the Seattle Police Department.

According to a report published this morning, Lehner, along with law endorsement professionals from Boston, Phoenix and Mesa, Ariz., are under consideration. Part of Seattle's interview process will include visits to each of the finalist's current departments.

Lehner, who is the city's second chief since forming its own department in 2006, came to Elk Grove from Eugene Ore. where he was that city's chief.

Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis and Vice Mayor Jim Cooper have not yet responded to requests seeking on Lehner's possible departure.

"awkward"....that's putting it mildly I would say. Now how do you go about explaining that little scenario to your bosses, officers and staff under your leadership should you not be selected?

.

Never saw the current Chief at any community events. Don't know anything about him. Pretty low key approach.

I missed when the old days when Chief Robert Simmons and his assistant Ed Kelley would come to most of the neighborhood question and answer sessions.

It was disappointing when they didn't promote Ed Kelley to chief. He is a resident of Elk Grove and had worked in this area for years.

Not really sure why you would ask about his replacement if there is a 25% chance of him leaving. I don't blame them for not responding.
