A traffic stop late Friday night led to the arrests of two Sacramento men on a variety of charges including possession of an altered assault rifle and counterfeit money.

According to Elk Grove Police, a vehicle driven by 23-year old Earl Harden was stopped near Sheldon Road and East Stockton Boulevard for a vehicle code violation. When officers approached the vehicle, they reportedly saw a handgun in plain view on the back seat of the car.

After Harden and his passenger, 21-year old Kilo Harden were detained, a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of an later assault rifle, ammunition, several prescription pills (controlled substance), counterfeit bills, marijuana and indicia of sales.

Both suspects were arrested and taken to the county jail. Earl Harden was released yesterday but there was no booking information posted on the other suspect.

They are lucky the police didn't shoot them.

A handgun in clear view on the back seat?

That is ghetto stupid and that could have resulted in a justifiable use of force.
