Elk Grove Unified School District Trustee Bobbie Singh-Allen formally announced her entry into the race for the district's Area Four seat today. Singh-Allen, who has served on the school board since August, 2012 when she was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of  Pollyanna Cooper-LeVangie, will be seeking election to a full four-year term.

In her announcement, Singh-Allen said among other priorities, she will focus on restoring programs that were cut in the midst of the Great Recession. Some of the programs she cited include summer school, Freshman sports and bi-lingual teaching associates.

“There is still a lot of hard work ahead and I am dedicated to working with all stakeholders,” she said.

Singh-Allen also stressed the bi-partisan endorsements she has received including Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis, Vice Mayor Jim Cooper, Elk Grove Council Member Pat Hume and former Council Member Sophia Scherman.

“I am proud of my bi-partisan support from the community,” Singh-Allen said. “Doing what’s in the best interest of children should not be political."

Singh-Allen currently has no announced opponents for the seat, but said she expects to raise about $50,000 for her campaign. She will  have a campaign kick-off event in early June.

I'm I the only one not impressed when a candidate has a laundry list of endorsements from other politicians? How about endorsements from clergy, the teachers who taught their kids, or the organizations for which they’ve volunteered under the radar? How about the co-workers they stepped over on their way up the ladder or their employees who know how they treat others? What about her accomplishments or ideas to improve our district?

I know nothing about Ms. Singh-Allen and she may be a great candidate but I rather hear about her accomplishments and not her endorsements.

Are we supposed to be impressed, Ms. Singh-Allen?

Thank you for being a leader and restoring programs like freshman sports and library technicians.

I have attended a few board meetings and can see the important role Singh plays trying to bring consensus. I have also noticed that you take an active role by visiting many school throughout the district, not just hers. I
am impressed with her hard work. She's a mom and speaks on behalf of children and parents, not the status quo. I am happy she is running.

I have attended several school board meetings and am impressed with Singh's independent thinking. I have also seen her visit most of the schools in the district and being a voice for our kids and parents. As a mom, she understands what we go through.

Is this the women who is married to the guy who was on the Charter Committee? He was certainly not what I would call "professional, principal or a trusting individual". I was in attendance the night Mr. Allen "went off" on the council. I was embarrassed to be sitting there; he was extremely unprofessional; his language rough; and his demeanor suggested he had probably had one too many drinks before his presentation. Now, I haven't seen this character around the last few years. Hopefully, he has gotten some professional help or decided local politics just isn't his cup of tea. Now, my concerns are how much of his "community spirit" has rubbed off on his wife? Ms. Singh-Allen might have a long list of political supporters; but I am not sure she has the right stuff for this board. Although, in Elk Grove, money talks...so if her war chest is hefty, she won't have a problem securing a seat. Let's hope her husband stays out of her way.

I suppose we should judge CSD Director Michelle Orrock by the questionable acts by her unprofessional and fellow charter commissioner Chris Orrock. Your old rants stinks of sour grapes. Move on buddy.
If the Council had issues with Allen, they certainly would not have endorsed her. Lame

Dear Anonymous
Have you ever attended an EGUSD meeting? You strike me an angry person with a personal axe to grind. I have attended board meetings. Not only is she professional, she is prepared, asks questions, and gets along with her colleagues. I was is the audience when she was the deciding vote to put money in classrooms and for the kids versus pay raises for administration. She has my vote and I will campaign for her.
Seeing is believing.
