If getting caught at one establishment was not a deterrent for three suspected shoplifters on Friday afternoon, the second attempted shoplifting at a neighboring business was enough to lead to their arrest.

According to Elk Grove Police, 21-year old Asya Maxwell, 22-year old Mariah Barksdale, both of Sacramento and 27-year old Daniel Drakes of Oakland reportedly entered the Carters store on Laguna Boulevard when Maxwell was observed shoplifting. An employee approached Maxwell and requested that she return the merchandise she had concealed on her person.

Maxwell returned the item, but Barksdale then threatened the employee with physical violence if she attempted to take back additional items. The employee feared for her safety, and the suspects exited the store.

The suspects then walked into another children's store next door. The employees in the second store were notified of the suspects' actions, and employees there followed the suspects and located property taken from Carters along with property from their store hidden in a trash can in the women`s bathroom.

Responding officers arrived and detained Barksdale inside the store while Maxwell and Drakes were detained when they exited the store. Maxwell and Drakes were also found in possession of stolen items taken from a purse theft in Sacramento County.

All three were arrested and booked in the county jail where they remain in custody.
