An Elk Grove man is being held on attempted murder charges following an alleged Friday afternoon domestic violence incident.

According to Elk Grove Police, 35-year old Brian Williams was involved in a verbal argument with the victim that escalated into a physical altercation. During the altercation, Williams allegedly punched the victim in the face several times.

Williams also allegedly threatened the victim with a knife, and when the victim attempted to gain control of the knife, the victim suffered several lacerations to the hand. A witness attempted to get Williams off the victim and during that struggle, Williams fell on the knife and suffered an injury to the left side of his chest but he continued to punch and kick the victim.

Responding officers located Williams, who fled the scene, a short distance away hiding in bushes. The victim suffered visible injuries.

After being medically cleared at an area hospital, Williams was arrested and booked into the county jail. The suspect has been charged with corporal injury to a spouse cohabitant, domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder and is not eligible for bail. Williams also had outstanding arrest warrants from Nevada County.

Too bad the knife didn't pierce a major chest artery and take him out.
