Among the topic to be discussed at next Wednesday's regular meeting of the Elk Grove City Council, will be the purchase of property for a multi-modal transportation station and a closed session performance review of the city manager.

As part of its plan for a multi-modal transportation station, the city is considering purchasing two separate adjoining parcels totaling 8.5-acres on the west side of Elk Grove-
Florin between Sheldon and Bond roads. The two lots, which together are pie-shaped, are along side the Union Pacific Railroad track would also serve as a stop Amtrak.

While the purchase price of the two parcels is approximately $2.26 million, the total cost to develop the site as a multi-modal facility is about $25 million. The staff report for the project says that the city will seek a variety of funding sources including Sacramento County and Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery, so-called TIGER grants, from the Federal government.

During the council's closed session, a public employee performance review of City Manager Laura Gill will also be held. It is not known if this is a regularly scheduled performance review.

Commuter rail service will be the most important development for the future of Elk Grove. It is imperative that we have transportation options and everyone getting in their cars every day should not be one of them.

This is thrilling news. A very smart move, and long overdue. Finally, a step toward linking EG with the Sac region and beyond, the Bay Area, Central Valley and more.

Transportation linkage and transportation options are one of the most important actions this city can take. All major communities have transportation choices as a VERY high priority.

Elk Grove has been disconnected and isolated for far too long.

Great news!!!

Finally! The City is doing something other than chasing schemes like the soccer stadium. We might actually have a chance to recruit some real jobs to town now. This is the type of things you boys on the council should be focusing on.
