As part of the City of Elk Grove's ongoing tourist promotion, In Elk Grove, a new video was recently released urging visitors to explore and get energized at any number of annual events held in the city.

The material for the video, which was posted on YouTube, says "From biking to bowling, Elk Grove provides recreational, sports, health, fitness, educational activities, and special events for all ages. We offer 92 parks, 18 miles of trails, and soon to come, an aquatic trainer center and sports complex boosting state-of-the-art facilities--inspiring the next generation of Olympians."

It is very interesting that when these public relations pieces were done with taxpayer money in the past, they were unveiled at an Elk Grove Council meeting so that we can see how our money is being spent. I don’t recall this one, or any others of late, coming before the Council and the public to view.
I have an email into PIO Christine Brainerd to ask.

It appears that more and more is occurring out the public view. I just read an announcement last Friday that our “elected officials” are putting a 14 to 16 field soccer complex in those 100 acres we just purchased. I’m all for it, but when was that approved?

Why so surprised? said...

I'm pretty sure there is a huge number of items that we the taxpayers are footing the bill for that we know nothing about. It's not the "People's House" and it never has been. It's the house of 5 out of touch, egotistical men who think they know better than anyone else. Their M.O. is give me your money Mr. Developer, a la Gil Moore/Steve Detrick, and we'll give you what you want. Don't worry about the pesky citizens. By the time they figure it out it will be too late.

I wonder which one of the "Gang of Five" made the big announcement regarding the soccer complex?

If I had to guess, I would say it was Steve Detrick because he has long tired for Mayor Gary Davis stealing his limelight as mayor and Detrick needed that colossal ego of his stroked by all those adoring young soccer players.

It's all about sex and money, baby.
Look at all the children being produced, all the homes, schools, swimming pools, and day care nannies needed to serve this swelling population.
You just have to dive in and watch out for the falling chips, casino-style, that fall on us marketeers and advertisers.

Boo, hiss! Boo, hiss! Booooo, city of elk grove! How dare the city try to market itself on YouTube and Facebook! This is a disgrace! Connie we need an investigation on this matter!! This is just TERRIBLE!!!!!!! TERRIBLE!!!!!

Not that a response is needed to someone who calls another out but doesn't have the courage to put their name to it, but my point was that the city of Elk Grove has always been proud of their PR pieces and unveiled them at Council meetings so that the Council and the residents of Elk Grove are aware of the PR piece.

As far as investigations go, we are three for three with the FPPC this year on elected officials; so I guess when an investigation is warranted, one will be filed.

Totally agree Connie..."Boo, hiss" adds nothing to the conversation.

Before moving here several years ago I never once thought about doing a Google search for things to do in Elk Grove. This is not a tourist destination city and when visiting family or friends they always guided us to things that would have interested us on our visit. To have not announced this at city hall just enforces my thoughts that we, the people, mean little to them. It's all about feeding their egos with our hard earned tax dollars.

The city's own citizen survey reported residents are dissatisfied with the traffic and congestion. Many of our roads operate at failing level of service. Whitlock parkway extension and freeway overpass will most likely encroach upon a gem if the city. How will pushing destination city fix this? Light rail is decades away, public transportation running at a deficit, and road improvement funds tapped out.

I got a detailed response first thing this morning from the city of Elk Grove’s PIO Christine Brainerd.

Apparently, the video was announced during City Manager Laura Gill’s update to the Council. I would venture to guess I am not the only one who missed it as Gill rushes through her required updates.

What I suggested, and Christine is going to take it to Gill, is that we go back to her, as our city’s PIO, five minute quarterly update. As I told her, most of us focus on council meetings to keep up on city business and even that is difficult at times. Plus we have our local high school students who are required to attend council meetings and we know how video oriented kids are these days.

Christine did share that the videos were shown at the State of City Address, but again, that was for a target audience, the Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce, and not the general populace.

Also, the cost approved by the Council for the videos, five of them in all, was $7,000.

This current video is one minute 13 seconds in length. Most people are visual and I would have remembered seeing it, as I certainly didn't remember it mentioned by Laura Gill.

Well "folks," I attended the meeting but had to go back to watch the video as I didn't remember hearing anything it. It was mentioned in the middle of her presentation but didn't seem worthy of a $7000. price tag to make it anything special or place any emphasis on it. Most likely was hoping it would get lost somewhere in the speech.

"A delusion of grandeur is the fixed, false belief that one possesses superior qualities such as genius, fame, omnipotence, or wealth. It is most often a symptom of schizophrenia, but can also be a symptom found in psychotic or bipolar disorders, as well as dementia (such as Alzheimer’s).

People with a delusion of grandeur often have the conviction of having some great but unrecognized talent or insight. They may also believe they have made some important discovery that others don’t understand or appreciate.

Less commonly, the individual may have the delusion of having a special relationship with a prominent person (such as being an adviser to the Commissioner of the MLS). Or the person may believe that actually are a very prominent and important person, in which case the actual person may be regarded as an imposter."

Does your city council suffer from the symptoms noted above?

If so, there are treatments available.

"Treatments for delusions of grandeur experienced by schizophrenic patients include medication, psychotherapy, electrical shock therapy, and hospitalization. Psychiatrists typically use a combination of treatment options for patients who exhibit delusions of grandeur. Drugs and electroconvulsive therapy might alter brain chemicals to ease symptoms of schizophrenia. Psychotherapy might help patients learn to control delusions of grandeur by changing thought patterns."

To Anon above. And it starts with Fabian Nunez!

What's with him saying in yesterday's Sacramento Bee, "There’s a city in Elk Grove that’s willing to put skin in the game,” he said.

Whose skin is Nunez talking about? And who gave him authority to speak for Elk Grove?
