Elk Grove Police Ends Vehicle Pursuit; Air One, CHP and Galt PD Pick-up Chase

According to information posted by the Elk Grove Police Department on Twitter, a vehicle pursuit that started about 40 minutes ago of suspect[ed] burglar[s] ended and has been taken over by a law enforcement helicopter.

The pursuit started as the result of a burglary at the Elk Grove Home Depot. Elk Grove Police pursued the suspect[s] south on Highway 99. Although the vehicle was lost, it now has been located by an Air One helicopter. The vehicle pursuit was ended by EGPD because of traffic along Highway 99 south of Eschinger Road.

The Galt Police Department has been contacted and along with California Highway Patrol, both are not taking over pursuit of the suspect[s].

Why don't they put a police substation at East Stockton and Laguna?

Suspects: UNKNOWN (BFA's, 20's)
S-1 and S-2 were observed shoplifting while inside the above business. When the suspects exited the store
without paying for the merchandise, they were approached by Old Navy loss prevention. The suspects quickly
got into a vehicle that backed up and struck the loss prevention officer in the leg. The suspects fled in the
vehicle. Responding officers were unable to locate the suspects. The loss prevention officer suffered a minor
injury. The suspects were described a two black female adults, in their 20's. The passenger was wearing a
purple shirt and black pants.

Suspect #2: MENDOZA, DAVID (HMA, 52, ARRESTED
Officers responded to the above location regarding three suspects who were observed shoplifting by Home
Depot loss prevention. The suspects placed two water heaters with brackets onto a dolly then exited the store
without paying for the merchandise. When the Loss Prevention officer attempted to detain the suspects, S-2
(Mendota resident) fled on foot, while S-1 (Fowler resident) and S-3 (not located) fled in black/maroon pick-up
truck with an attached trailer. Officers located S-2 across the street from Home Depot and he was detained
without incident. Officers found the suspect vehicle and attempted to conduct a vehicle stop. S-1, who was
driving the vehicle, did not yield and a pursuit ensued on Elk Grove Blvd. from HWY 99. The pursuit was
terminated due to heavy traffic in the area. Officers later located the trailer at Cosumnes Oaks High School
and found that it continued additional stolen property. The water heaters were recovered by Home Depot loss
prevention outside the exit to the store. Officers later located the pick-up truck and pursued the vehicle
southbound on HWY 99 towards Galt then lost the vehicle on Eschinger Rd. Officers spotted the vehicle again
and resumed the pursuit on HWY 99 from Twin Cities Rd. As the pursuit traveled southbound on HWY 99,
EGPD cancelled their involvement in the pursuit to due traffic conditions. The vehicle was followed by AIR 1
(SPD Helicopter) who notified allied agencies. S-1 stopped the vehicle he was driving in Galt and let out S-3,
who was not located. S-1 was eventually taken into custody in Stockton. S-1 and S-2 were arrested then
transported to the main jail.
