Elk Grove Police are investigating a pedestrian fatality involving two vehicles that occurred early last night on 8200 block of Elk Grove Boulevard west of Big Timber Drive.

A pedestrian was attempting to cross from the south side of  Elk Grove Boulevard to the north side, in the middle of the block where there is no crosswalk, when he was struck by two vehicles that were travelling westbound. After being struck by the first vehicle, a Toyota Camry, the driver pulled over to assist. While the pedestrian was lying in the roadway, he was struck by a second vehicle, a Honda Civic, that was also travelling westbound on Elk Grove Boulevard.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and determined that the pedestrian (adult male) was deceased.  Identification of the deceased will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Both drivers remained at the scene with their respective vehicles after the collision and were cooperating. At this time, there is no indication that either driver was impaired at the time of the collision. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to call the Elk Grove Police Department Traffic Bureau at (916) 478-8148.

"attempting to cross from the south side of Elk Grove Boulevard to the north side, in the middle of the block where there is no crosswalk, "

My question is why would someone want to cross where there are no crosswalks and marker lines on the pavement?

Can't they wait until they get to the next crosswalk?

Do they think that they own the street?

I too often see people wearing dark clothing trying to cross Laguna and Elk Grove Boulevards mid block where there are NO crosswalks.

The pedestrians just pop up out of nowhere causing motorists to swerve and potentially cause a significant accident.

Perhaps we should wait for further information before making a judgement call. Could he have been "impaired"? Maybe a vision, hearing, mobility, health, judgment, cognition or concentration problem? Whatever the reason, it is very sad indeed for the two drivers and the mans families.
