Suspected Shoplifter Sprays Elk Grove Retail Employees

December 22, 2014 |

An unknown assailant sprayed a chemical compound on Elk Grove retail employees in an attempt to steal merchandise.

According to Elk Grove Police, the female suspect left the Burlington Coat Factory on East Stockton Boulevard late Sunday morning without paying for merchandise. When a loss prevention employee attempted to detain her, the suspect sprayed the employee with a chemical agent, possibly mace.

A store manager who came to assist the loss prevention officer was also sprayed. The stolen merchandise was recovered and the suspect fled on foot.

Both employees were treated by Cosumnes Service Fire Department. The suspect was described as a black female adult, heavy set and was wearing a white t-shirt.
