UPDATED 12:00 p.m.

The Cosumnes Community Services District (CCSD) is not interested in and has not been approached by the City of Elk Grove about a merger according to the district's General Manager.

The idea of a merger was floated during last Wednesday's special meeting of the Elk Grove City Council. Elk Grove Vice Mayor Pat Hume suggested the idea, noting there was "bubbling in the community" to explore the possibility of merging the two entities.

Reached yesterday, CCSD General Manager Jeff Ramos said they were unaware of any interest in a possible merger between the two entities. Ramos also said that to the best of his knowledge, the CCSD board members had not discussed the matter.

"We were disappointed to hear about [Vice Mayor]Pat's [Hume] comments," Ramos said. "We think, we believe, that we have tremendous support within the community of Elk Grove."

Ramos noted the CCSD has a 30-year history of serving the needs of the community in a very cost effective manner. The CCSD provides parks and recreation services in Elk Grove and fire protection for Elk Grove and Galt.

"We really listen to the needs of the residents of Elk Grove," Ramos added.

CCSD Board Member Rod Brewer expressed same sentiments similar to Ramos' noting they have a very good relationship with the community at large.

"We are continuing to serve the needs of our community effectively and efficiently," Brewer said. "We intend to continue to act as a partner to the community in the foreseeable future."

What do you want to bet when Laura Gill told council members, including Pat Hume, that she couldn’t “pencil out” the funding for the soccer stadium project that she was told to go and find some money. Could it be that Gill looked no further than CSD Parks and Recreation monies? “Let’s go get that money and we can do whatever we want with it?” Can’t happen? Remember the drainage fund money? We know the city is now in the habit of robbing Peter to pay Paul to fund their harebrained schemes.

I think that the only “bubbling” was in the City Manager’s office. Well, it looks like Gill’s bubble just popped!

Well stated and amusing comment above. I wish I had said that. Oh well, I was thinking it.

Still it's good. Nice job!!!

"Bubbling in the community"? Do tell, please!

I for one believe CSD is the model of efficiency and outstanding service for which the city would be well advised to emulate. I also credit CSD for steering clear of money-losing propositions floated by the city. Too bad the city sees fit to venture into the park and recreation business and is now looking for a lifeline for financial support.

Just say "NO" CSD!

What's next in this dumpster fire of a story?

The City decides to go after the Oakland Raiders and build them a stadium?
