The City of Galt announced that they will go to a Stage 3 water alert effective Monday, May 18.

In a letter posted on social media, the city said as a result of the State Water Resources Board 32-percent mandated reductions for Galt ratepayers, several reductions will be mandated. Among them, no washing of hardscapes will be permitted and potable water will not be allowed on construction sites to control dust.

Additionally, residential users will be restricted to watering two days per-week depending on their address. There will be no residential watering allowed on Mondays, Thursdays and Friday.

To ensure compliance, the announcement said the city will hire two seasonal employees to help with conservation education and enforcement. The letter did not specify what penalties would be imposed for non-compliance.

"We recognize that water restrictions impose an inconvenience on customers," Public Works Director Steven Winkler said. "But we trust they recognize the seriousness of the situation as enter a fourth year of statewide drought and the importance of conserving our groundwater."
