Even though he has not formally announced his 2016 candidacy, Elk Grove City Council Member Darren Suen's "Re-Elect Darren Suen for City Council 2016 ID#1376191" will be the beneficiary of a fundraising event this Thursday evening.

The event for Suen, who was appointed to the city council last November, is being sponsored by Region Builders and is being held at a Jackson Properties facility in Elk Grove. Tickets to the event are priced at $75, with gold, silver, and bronze sponsorship available for $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000 respectively.

The event co-chairs include former Sacramento County Supervisor Jimmy Yee, Sacramento County Supervisor Don Nottoli, and California Assembly Member Jim Cooper, whom Suen replaced on the Elk Grove City Council.

In addition to Region Builders, the fundraiser is co-sponsored by Jackson Properties and the North State Building Industry Association.

Let's see if I got this right. Cooper runs for Assembly and gets help from Jimmy Yee. Cooper wins and with a little help, Suen gets appointed to that seat. Now Yee and Cooper are co-chairs for this event. Will the circle go unbroken?

Well, we knew that was coming, right? Another one bought by the Developers

Here's an economic development idea--sell bobbleheads of each council member, with their heads all nodding "YES" to everything!

Elk Grove is a joke.

Why is this a RE-election event??? The guy wasn't ELECTED TO ANYTHING! Darren, shame on you to spin this into a RE-ELECTION anything. Shame on you for fattening up at the developers trough. So much for being independent and open minded...Bull@hit....Same s@hit, just different faces. Darren is a huge disappointment and it didn't take him too long. Probably a record for Elk Grove. Must be taking lessons from Detrick. Take their money; nod yes to every project...get a second pension. Fat and happy.

How about bringing light industrial and office jobs to Elk Grove instead of more cookie cutter houses, low income housing projects and strip centers?

Miles and miles of houses thrown up during the start of a historically severe drought.

Thousands of low income housing projects to serve residents who have low paying retail and food service jobs.

Garish billboard signs to further glamorize this steaming dumpster fire of a city.

Are we really surprised that Mr. Suen is more than willing to take money from the developers?

If Elk Grove history has shown anything, it has been that if you want to be re-elected, or in Mr. Suen's case, elected, you must sell your soul to company store. In this case the company store is the housing developers and the like.

From this day forward Mr. Suen will never vote against any major housing development. So much for Mr. Suen's independence.....reminds me of what Mr. Detrick once claimed he stood for.

I had hopes that Mr. Suen would be a man of and for the people and not go this route. Very disappointed...he just couldn't resist the $$$.

It's disappointing there's no slow growth council members. They're all on the take from the development community. If we just build a few more rooftops then high end jobs will follow. Huh, when my family moved to EG in the early 90's the population was approx 25k. Our population is now over 160k and still no jobs. When will the charade end? I remember doing our shopping at Arden, Florin, and Mack Roads. It's nice we have shopping, movies, and dining close to home so I'm not anti-growth but why so much so fast? We don't need to be like anti-growth Davis but something in between would be nice.

I've spoken with a number of council members and they all believe the new Mall with be a catalyst for jobs because executives want to shop where they live. Ok, are those executives going to buy those Estate Residential properties in Souza Dairy with 5 foot setbacks? Or will they want a home overlooking the valley and Folsom Lake in El Dorado Hills or Folsom? I guess our only choice is to further expand the city limits south of Kammerer Road so we can build some true "Estate Residential" homes. LOL Just more RD-5 and RD-7, throw in some ER with 5 foot setbacks and see the executives line up.

Anon. 20:15...You're right, we've all heard that speal over and over. The fact is the Executive doesn't want a "relationship" with the hires and he/she certainly doesn't want to drive down that street of tract homes to get to their "executive housing" or look over and see the top of some low-income apartments. As for the Outlet Mall...Executives don't shop Outlet Malls! I think the council is confused as to what exactly an "Executive" is and maybe they're speaking more of the Manager or the Boss. Another thought...do we build a community based on the wants of the "Executive?" Heck I'm not an "Executive, Manager or Boss" and I don't shop the Outlet Malls that much...get us a Chicos and I might though.

Thinkin' we have an out-of-touch City Council with false dreams.

Why are all those new houses and high density low income housing projects being built during the fourth year of a severe drought?

Now we can only water our lawn once a week and use our drip system three days per week.

We suffer just so those developers can build more homes and high density low income housing projects that use more of our precious water.

Real forward thinking there Elk Grove.

This place is going to look like a browned out desert wasteland with those water restrictions.
