Finally, we would be remiss if we did not address comments from Vice Mayor Pat Hume regarding what he said are mischaracterizations of his comments.

Noting comments made by readers on EGN, Hume said "people believe that I say more rooftops equal more jobs. That's not the case. Were that so, I'd be standing out in front of city hall handing out building permits."
The Vice Mayor went on to say that the paradigm of development is that the first response to demand is residential, the next response is the commercial services, and the final step is creation of "the synergy of housing for the jobs to locate here ..."
While we won't quibble with the Vice Mayor on the semantics as he asserts he is simply discussing the paradigm of development.
Nonetheless, we might suggest that he and his fellow city council members heed Burness' advise, dispense with their cookie cutter mentality, and as Apple Computer once implored, Think Different.

The job / housing imbalance is so out of kilter even with the token number of jobs that MIGHT be created at the project site.
Elk Grove will become a crime ridden dump because the vast majority of the parents have to drive out of town to get decent paying jobs, leaving their "precious little snowflakes" an opportunity to wreak havoc during their absence.

Assume Mr. Hume is speaking of the NEW paradigm of development which some of us EGN readers comment about. While you may provide a new line of thinking, you fail to suggest what issues we need to focus on and be "critical" with. Is it not true that "communication" is a key eliminate in a successful paradigm of development? I have just found our cities vagueness on issues brought forward at city hall to be somewhat troubling and I'll just lay that one at our Mayors feet!
