A few days back, a reader left a comment on a new "candidate" for President, "honest" Gil Fulbright.
The satirical video, produced by the non-partisan group Represent Us, racked up over 1 million views in its first 24-hours. The ads feature Honest Gil telling the truth, the real truth about elections and who funds them on all levels from the Presidential race on down to low level politicians like the Elk Grove City Council.
The ads immediate popularity shows how little the public has come to trust what comes from the mouths of our elected officials in this time of major political contributions. Wouldn't it be great for Elk Grove politics if someone could be drafted to run a real campaign like Gil's against one of the incumbents?

There is no such thing as an honest politician. There is an old Chinese Proverb, "If you can show me a straight pubic hair, I will show you an honest politician."
Does any Elkgrovians care to clean up the corruptions here?

The voters in the city of Tallahassee passed what was called an Anti-Corruption Code. The measure also included limits on contributions in local politics - $250 from a single source – and strict new ethics rules. The measure had heavy bipartisan support – both the tea party and liberals – imagine that? It also had the support of the local chapter of Common Cause and the League of Women Voters.
Citizens, who worked to get the measure on the ballot, with the help of Represent.Us, collected twice the number of signatures required for the ballot and the measure passed with 67 percent of the vote.
Tallahassee has a population of 186,000. Elk Grove has 165,000.
So if citizens rally here in Elk Grove, can we do the same thing? It sure would level the playing field whereby the incumbents raise upwards to $200K, mostly from developers, to stay in office, and no one, not even the best of challengers, unless they are Donald Trump and can fund themselves, would stand a chance to unseat them.
Funny when three of the current Council members were challengers, they all advocated for limiting contributions. Ask them now and see what the answer is!
