Two individuals were assaulted and had their bikes stolen in separate incidents this weekend according to Elk Grove Police reports.

In the first incident, a 16-year old male was riding his bike Friday afternoon near Sharkey Avenue and Ranch Park Way when he was approached by two unknown male suspects. One of the suspects punched the victim in the face and took his bike.

The suspects, who are described as 18-year old white males, fled in an unknown direction and responding officers were unable to locate them. The victim was not injured.

In the other incident, a 14-year old male victim was on the 8900 block of Sierra Street early Sunday afternoon when he was approached by two unknown suspects. The victim was hit in the back by the suspects who then took his bike.

The suspects fled in an unknown direction and responding officers were unable to locate them. No physical description for the two suspects was available and the victim was not injured.

Hope the bike thieves hit a rut and get thrown over the handlebars.

Bikes seem to be getting popular amongst a certain segment of the population who haul their recyclables and other worldly possessions on them. Maybe e-tran can rig a bunch of bike racks on their buses to meet this growing demographic in Elk Grove.
