Shooters in Hookah Lounge Convicted of Murder, Gun Charges

December 4, 2015 |

Yesterday
a jury found 21-year old Salvador Martinez guilty in a July, 2014 murder that took place outside a hookah lounge in Sacramento.

The jury also found true the allegation that Martinez personally used a firearm causing death. Also convicted was 31-year old James Wallace for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Close to midnight on July 12, 2014, Tyrell Hall went to the Hookah Lounge on Fulton Avenue with several friends, including Martinez. When his group of friends began arguing with other people in the lounge, they were escorted outside of the establishment along with the other individuals involved.

Once outside, the dispute escalated into a fistfight and then a gunfight among several people, including Martinez, Tana Dania, and Wallace. Martinez was the first to shoot, setting off the gunfight.

Mr. Hall was hit by gunfire, killing him. Tana Dania was acquitted of murder with the use of a firearm allegation.

Martinez faces a sentence of 40 years to life in prison. Wallace has a prior 2004 strike conviction for assault with a deadly weapon. He faces a sentence of 6 years in prison.

Sentencing is set for January 8, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in Department 27 before the Honorable Delbert Oros.

Just out of curiosity, but what is the Elk Grove connection to this case?

Not sure of the Elk Grove connection but I was on the jury panel. Luckily the jury was set before before I was called to the box. Took 4 days to go through 200+ potential jurors and that was in mid October.
