Four Suspects Arrested, In Custody Following Elk Grove Gang Related Shooting Incident

January 29, 2016 |

Four suspects were arrested and in custody at the Sacramento County Jail following a shooting incident in Elk Grove yesterday afternoon.

The events started unfolding just before 3 p.m. when Elk Grove Police officers were dispatched to Atkins Drive and Whitelock Parkway in the city's East Franklin neighborhood.  As officers were responding to the location, another call came into dispatch regarding a vehicle collision at the same location.

The caller indicated that a black Mercedes had collided with a business, and that the occupants had fled on foot. An additional call regarding a shooting in the 10000 block of Tittle Way also came into dispatch.

Responding officers contacted 25-year old Christopher Pak of Elk Grove (pictured above) at the Tittle Way location, while additional officers began searching for the occupants of the Mercedes who had fled on foot.

Several local school were placed in lockdown while officers began searching the area. With the assistance of several witnesses, officers located 25-year old Mark Ansley Oliver and 27-year old parolee Brandon James Claypool, both of Elk Grove, inside a vehicle that was being driven by 23-year old Shaniece Nicole Williams of Sacramento.

Officers conducted a vehicle stop and detained the occupants and located a handgun inside the vehicle underneath an infant who was in a car seat. Officer determined that Oliver and Claypool had been occupants in the black Mercedes that had been abandoned.

During the investigation, officers determined that Pak drove home after Oliver and Claypool, both validated gang members, were observed on remote security surveillance monitors in front of his residence.

When Pak arrived in his white Acura, the suspects were inside a black Mercedes, a confrontation occurred while all the involved parties were still in their vehicles and gunshots were fired. Two, possibly three vehicles fled the location and eventually arrived at the intersection of Atkins Drive and Whitelock Parkway where at least one additional shot was fired.

The Mercedes accelerated through the intersection at a high rate of speed and collided into a business. When Pak was detained at the Tittle Way location, a blue Mercedes was located at the scene with a bullet hole through the driver’s side door.

The black Mercedes that crashed into the building also had a bullet hole through the driver’s side passenger door. Officers were unable to locate anyone who had been shot.

A search warrant was obtained for Pak's residence later last night and officers located marijuana and indicia of sales. The four suspects were arrested and transported to the main jail.

At this point in the investigation, officers have determined that this was not a random incident and the investigation is ongoing.

Pak, Claypool and Oliver are not eligible for bail and will be arraigned Monday afternoon. Williams is scheduled for release later today.

Fortunately Elk Grove PD was able to respond quickly to this incident, and that no innocent bystanders were hurt. Job well done EGPD.

Unfortunately, these types of incidents are going to be around us forever. Even though East Franklin on the surface appears to be a nice neighborhood, there are lots of economic and social problems festering in this "hood". Just ask any teenager who attends Franklin High School or any of the other high schools in Elk Grove and they will tell you. Behind that shiny facade, there are lots of gang bangers and wannabes.

Mayor Davis and Councilman Ly ought to drop all the happy talk they spew from the dais about eating to much at crab feeds and really, dare I say, "laser focus" on addressing these problem lest they spill over to the entire community. You have a real problem over there, so focus your attention on resolving some of these issues. You were both elected to resolve these issues, not getting funding for your exclusionary language school and attend social function to gorge on crabs.

Correct sounds like Pak had surveillance cameras at his house that he could check from his phone and saw these guys sitting in front of his house probably about to go in and rob him of his weed.. He probably jammed home confronted them and gun battle started

Time to take out the trash!

Elk Grove is laser focused on becoming a big sprawling HOOD!

Gangs in Elk Grove have been an issue since '06. Take it from a kid who went to Toby. Chris Pak is a great guy. He's been the barber in the Elk Grove area for years. He's the reason some kids are on the right path today. Chris Pak has done a great job with helping the community and the children he comes in contact with. Don't look at this minor incident and say "Elk Grove has a hood problem" welcome to Sacramento county.

While Davis has spent his time focused on his coffee shops, crime has been on the increase. It's true... look it up. Interesting to see that he's been so active in an election year with the specter of someone breathing down his neck. Where was that laser focus last year, Davis?

To Anon at 15:33. . . We have been hearing for a year now that "someone" is going to run against Davis. The Elk Grove Chamber members don't play the secret game very well and some have done this "someone" a disservice. So much for "friends in high places." That "someone" should just come out from behind the shadows and announce.

I Pray these young men come to know Jesus Christ as there Lord and Savior, including the young lady. Hopefully this incident will be a learning process and cause them to go in a different direction that will cause them to be productive citizens in there community. It's a blessing that the baby is alright.

How can you call this a "minor incident"? The wreckless behavior of these "great" guys have caused this town an abundance of stress and due to their actions children are left traumatized after being affected by the incident! Come on people, this behavior is far from ok.....its absolutely unacceptable!!!

Elk Grove police is the "hood"

Elk Grove grew too fast, sprawled to much and the results have proven :Sprawl kills. Well planned growth along with a laser focus on building stronger neighborhoods and communities could well prevent such events in our city. We need proactive leadership not reactive leadership.
We have a good well funded police department and we as residents should be very thankful they are working to keep us safe.
Our city is undergoing a general plan update looking into a future growth policy outside of our current city limits and outside the urban service boundary. The question not being asked of the residents: how big a city do you want?

Who is the someone that will run? Please tell

Laser focused on building more low income apartment projects.

I keep going back to that Atlantic article 7 years ago or so talking how Franklin Reserve was a shining example of the 21st century American suburban ghetto. Rentals, no jobs, weak transportation systems, cheaply built housing, not to mention that it borders South Sac. Eventually, people with the means leave. EG is a move on up, and move on out sort of town. Fruitridge was a nice place at one time, too!

That someone is you Lynn Wheat. I'll donate what little spare money I have and will walk
precinct's. We need smart leaders like you.

Joe, don't be a fool. If you honestly believe Chris Pak is a model citizen to our community you're about as mature as you were in high school pal. He is a multi time felon who has spent the last several years covering up his drug sales with his barber career. It was only a matter of time before he got knocked off his high horse.

East Franklin, the new Mack Road AKA South Sacramento south.

To Spoons and Forks; Thank you for your support! I need you and at least 1000 others willing and following through with walking the precincts. Do you think we can get that?
