Trail Extensions, Additions to be Considered at Tonight's Elk Grove City Council Meeting

At tonight's meeting, the Elk Grove City Council will conduct two hearings on plans to add missing links in the city's trail system.
The hearings will be to consider approval of mitigated negative environmental declarations on two additions/extensions of the Laguna Creek Trail. By accepting the declarations, the City Council will be clearing the way for improvements to commence.
Both segments are in the Camden neighborhoods and will ultimately connect portions of the Laguna Creek Trail that run through the neighborhoods, and to Bond Road. The most significant addition to the trail will be a new segment that will run from the existing trail in Camden south to Bond Road. (See picture above).
The staff report says if the declarations are accepted, construction could start this Spring and be completed within six months. Estimated construction costs were not included in the report.
Tonight's meeting start at 6 p.m.

I'm excited to see these projects move forward. Off street trails make our communities desirable places to live and can reduce vehicle traffic. Those living in Camden Estates will be able to access the lakes and wildlife found along the Laguna Creek trail or even run to their workout at Cal Fit.
I hope these projects receive support from the community and ultimately the city council tonight.
The work of our Trail Committee is commendable. If it wasn't for their tenacity, it is doubtful the city council would give any consideration to this important elements of our community. Additionally, if not for people like Mr. Doty and Ms. Anderson, it is unlikely the Highway 99 trail overpass would have built.
In regards to Mr. Suen's comments of how much he enjoyed the amenities while residing in Irvine, CA., I might you suggest he puts his money where his mouth is and strongly advocate for having a robust system of interconnected trail - and not by using streets and sidewalks as real trails, short of being stop-gap measures. Let's see how much he really wants to transform Elk Grove.

Easy access to good trails has enhanced the quality of life here in Elk Grove, and well-designed, interesting routes can spur economic activity by attracting visitors to our city.
The city of Elk Grove Trails Committee has worked diligently to promote healthy living by creating our city’s trails. These trails build community and the trails committee should have every resource available to them to continue their fine work.
