Elk Grove, Republic Services Launch Recycle Contest

February 25, 2016 |

The City of Elk Grove and its waste contractor Republic Services have announced a new program to encourage better recycling practices.

During the month of March, Republic Services employees will randomly select residential recycling carts within the 12 service areas throughout the city for inspection. The first household in each area with no contaminants (i.e. trash) in their recycle cart will be awarded a $100 gift card.

“We want to educate and reinforce good recycling habits that will help our City lessen its impact on local landfills,” Tony Cincotta, Republic Services General Manager said. “This is a fun way to encourage and reward recycling in our community.”

Winners will be contacted by Republic Services and asked to attend a City Council Meeting in April to be recognized and awarded their prize. Each winner will also be entered into a drawing to win the grand prize, a $200 gift card.

To be eligible, an account must be current and in good standing to be eligible for either prize. For questions about the Trim Your Waste contest, contact Annah Rulon at Republic Services at 916-669-6868.

Determining what is really recyclable can be confusing. Below is a list of items acceptable for recycling and some frequent misnomers.
