On Saturday night  the Fifth Annual Straight Up Dubs VW Show held at the Elk Grove Volkswagen in the Elk Grove Automall was a hugely successful event that underscored the camaraderie of the VW community.

The event was open for the community to enjoy and the over 40 contestants paid a small entry fee to display their Bugs and other VW classics liked the legendary van. Food and drinks, a DJ and a fun photo booth, provided the backdrop to a relaxing, summertime event for families and enthusiasts. Attendees voted on their favorite cars, and various raffles took place.

“We can safely hang out, and talk about our love of VWs,” Lee Stahlecker, Vice President of Straight Up Dubs said. He added that Saturday evening events allowed attendees to free up their Sundays, contrasting the usual comprehensive, all-day Bugorama events (consisting of a car show, drag races, and parts for sale).

The Elk Grove Volkswagen dealership has graciously hosted the event providing free BBQ for the last five years, while remaining open to potential customers. The next show is slated for the same location on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 5 - 8 p.m.

Congrats to the City Council and Doan for making this economic development event happen!

Yea, right! They were too involved in working with Amazon to get their big warehouse and 500 jobs to locate here to mess with some car showing. Their time is very limited seeking new jobs to be bothered with an automobile show.

Josie, it's a sad statement about the state of our country when warehouse jobs are now one of the most sought after industries. Used to be warehouse jobs were at the bottom of the heap, just above retail. Now you have dignitaries such as Ami Bera going to grand openings of El Pollo Loco!

Yeah but keep in that those mind numbing jobs on assembly lines and machine shops were hardly fulfilling.

I agree the wages for warehousing were lower but the jobs themselves were no better.

IMHO the problem is that Americans refuse to accept that we cannot compete effectively against poor countries for unskilled labor.

The days when a (usually) man could comfortably support his family with a job screwing lug nuts onto cars on an assembly line are gone forever.
