At tomorrow night's Elk Grove City Council meeting, the city's economic development director will give his annual report on his department's progress.

Hired a little over one year ago after the dismissal of Randy Starbuck, Economic Development Director Darrell Doan will detail recent activities that have been pursued and those that are being pursued to fulfill the promise of Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis to bring living-wage jobs to Elk Grove.

Over the last 12 months, the report states the department established three goals - retention of business, administering new plans, and maintaining private and public sector partnerships.

Among the accomplishments Doan highlighted over the last 12 months include:

  • Continued sales calls on the State of California to locate offices in the city
  • Assisting Apple Computer with their previously announced expansion plans
  • Assisting the Department of Correctional Healthcare to obtain an $81,000 economic incentive from the City
  • Assisting For Any Auto Group open their new auto and body detail shop at the Elk Grove Automall
  • Assisting the Howard Hughes Company in landing leases for the unfinished Outlet Collection at Elk Grove shopping facility
  • Assisting circuit board assembler "NRC Manufacturing and a second confidential user, with identifying suitable facilities in Elk Grove for expansion purposes, which if successful could bring several thousand new high-tech manufacturing jobs to Elk Grove.
  • Assisted the Visit Elk Grove agency promoting the city as a travel destination
  • Initiated a ribbon cutting program for high-profile business openings

Like his predecessor, Doan has also attended shopping center trade shows in Las Vegas and San Diego to assist the Howard Hughes Corporation in securing leases for the Outlet Collection at Elk Grove.

Tomorrow's meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m.
