Elk Grove Man Gets in Argument, Fires Gun at Liquor Store

August 26, 2016 |

An Elk Grove man was arrested late last night after he allegedly fired his handgun at an Elk Grove liquor store.

Just before midnight, Elk Grove Police were dispatched to the Stonelake Vine and Spirits shop on West Taron Drive on the city's west side regarding shots being fired at the store. Upon arrival, Mark Smith, 56 (pictured above), was located in front of the business and detained.

Officers determined that Smith had been involved in a verbal argument with a customer while inside the businesses earlier. Smith returned to the store an hour later, he fired the handgun into the window of the business while an employee was inside the store.

A search of Smith's vehicle reportedly led to the discovery of a handgun. Smith was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and has been released on bail. No one was injured in the shooting.
