Elk Grove Police Apprehend Juvenile Suspected of Last Week's Sexual Assault


A suspect was arrested today in connection with an alleged attempted sexual assault that happened last week in Elk Grove.

Detectives from the Elk Grove Police Department placed a 15-year-old Elk Grove male juvenile in custody for an attempted sexual assault that occurred on Friday, August 6 on the 5600 block of Adobe Spring Way near Betschart Park.

During the course of the investigation, detectives received several tips from the community regarding the identity of the person who may have been responsible for the assault. In addition to the tips, a second person contacted the department after watching news reports and indicated that she had been confronted by the same suspect a week earlier near the same location.

During this July 29 incident, the 39-year-old victim was jogging in the area of Beryl Creek Way near Weeping fig Way when she was approached from behind by an African-American male juvenile who grabbed her buttocks. After the assault, the victim chased the suspect but she was unable to catch up to him.

The 15-year-old suspect, who is not being identified due to his age, was transported to the Sacramento County Juvenile Hall and booked on the following charges: Penal Code 664/261 (Attempted Rape), Penal Code 220 (Assault with Intent to Rape), Penal Code 207 (Kidnapping), Penal Code 236 (False Imprisonment), Penal Code 243.4(E)(1) (Sexual Battery).
