Elk Grove City Councilman Darren Suen.

Suen, who was appointed to the City Council in December 2012 when Jim Cooper vacated the seat upon his election to the California State Assembly, is now seeking a full four-year term for the District 1 seat. The rally was held at Suen's campaign office on West Stockton Boulevard.

Close to 100 supporters and campaign volunteers attended the event. Among elected officials attending the event were Cooper, Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees President Bobbie Singh-Allen, Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis, Elk Grove City Councilman Pat Hume, and Cosumnes Community Services District Directors Rich Lozano and Michelle Orrock.

Aside from the rally, volunteers staffed phone banks and walked precincts contacting over 500 homes. Suen, who is facing one opponent, said he would continue campaigning throughout the election cycle.

"I couldn't have asked for a better kickoff surrounded by family, friends, and community leaders from local and state government who appreciate my work to date," Suen said. "I will continue engaging our community to disseminate information, inform residents of what the city is doing, and hear their perspectives on matters important to them."
