Unofficial results show that Sacramento Transportation Authority's Measure B has been defeated.

According to results showing reports from all 1,267 precincts in Sacramento County, Measure B has failed to reach a super majority of 66.6-percent required for approval.

The measure sought a 30-year 1/2 cent sales tax increase to fund a variety of transportation projects in Sacramento County. Among those projects was the controversial Southeast Connector road linking Elk Grove through its rural area to Folsom and El Dorado Hills.

Sacramento County's Board of Election results posted at 1:22 a.m. today show Measure B has received 195,411 yes votes or 64.81-percent. No votes received 106,080 votes for 35.91-percent. Each subsequent report posted since polls closed last night showed declining support for the measure.

A recount of the results from Measure B proponents is expected.
