Dezmon McClary was sentenced today to 50 years to life for the October 2015 murder of in Sacramento's Natomas neighborhood.

On December 8, 2016, a Sacramento County Superior Court jury convicted McClary for the first-degree murder of Marcus Gonzalez. The jury also found true the allegation that McClary intentionally and personally discharged a firearm causing death.

McClary had been dating a resident of the Natomas Park Apartments when on October 8, 2015, McClary became aware that his ex-girlfriend was seeing a new boyfriend. The next day, McClary and an accomplice, Charles Johnson went to the ex-girlfriend’s apartment. 

McClary, who was armed with a shotgun, and Johnson, who was armed with a handgun, entered the apartment through an unlocked door. McClary located Marcus Gonzalez and believing him to the new boyfriend, shot him with the shotgun.



Charles Johnson was convicted of involuntary manslaughter while armed with a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced to 5 years, 8 months in prison. The sentencing was issued by Judge Marjorie Koller.
