Elk Grove Man Held on $1.5 million Bail For Assault, Shoplifting in Separate Incidents

An Elk Grove man is in custody at the Sacramento County Jail on $1.57 million bail after being arrested on suspicion of crimes in two different incidents on Saturday, March 25.

In the first incident, Deirdrick Burnett, 41, allegedly was involved in a fight with a known victim at the victim's residence on the 9400 block of Dunkerrin Way. During the fight, Burnett reportedly struck the victim several times in the head resulting in the hospitalization of the victim.

Burnett fled the residence and was next observed shoplifting in the Nugget grocery store on Elk Grove Boulevard. When Burnett was approached by a store loss prevention employee, he allegedly resisting and was fighting with the employee when Elk Grove Police officers arrived.

Due to the active resistance, responding officers deployed a Taser to subdue Burnett. The suspect was taken into custody and booked into the county jail.

Burnett is charged with felony robbery, assault, two counts of probation violation, and one misdemeanor resisting arrest. Arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28.
