Elk Grove Police Deploy SWAT to Serve Warrant, Arrest Residential Armed Robbery Suspect

An Elk Grove man was arrested on Sunday, March 12 on suspicion of involvement in an armed robbery of a residence. 

Elk Grove Police officers were dispatched early Sunday morning to the 8600 block of Jenrose Way near Roy Herburger Elementary School after receiving a call for service regarding a residential armed robbery. According to the victim at the residence, three male adults approached him from behind while he was outside and pushed him into the residence. 

With several of the victim's family members present inside the residence, the suspects, one of whom was armed with a handgun, threatened the victims and stole a purse. The suspects exited the house and fled on foot with the stolen property in an unknown direction. 

Through investigative efforts, officers identified a residence in the 5900 block of Livorno Way that was connected with the robbery. After detectives obtained a search warrant for the location, a SWAT team was deployed to assist in serving the warrant.

One of the suspects, Marcus Antonio Smith, 20 was detained as he exited the residence. The stolen property was recovered during the service of the search warrant and Smith arrested for his alleged involvement the robbery. 

Due to the ongoing nature of this investigation, a booking photo is not being released. Smith, who is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday, March 14, is being held on five felony and one misdemeanor charges with a $500,000 bail.
