Two Elk Grove High-Speed Pursuit Suspects in Custody, One Ineligible For Release

March 17, 2017 |

Two men apprehended following a multi-jurisdictional high-speed pursuit are being held at the Sacramento County Jail awaiting arraignment.

The two suspects, LaShoun Jude Schexnayder, 38, of Sacramento, and Edward Damonte Stephen, 28, of Richmond, were arrested last night in the Vintage Park area of Sacramento after they led Elk Grove Police on a pursuit that started in Elk Grove.

The pursuit started when Elk Grove Police were dispatched to a parking lot on the 7500 block of Laguna Boulevard after the suspects were allegedly observed trying to break into a vehicle. Responding officers located the suspects who fit the descriptions leaving the area in a black SUV.

After failing to stop, the pair, with Schexnayder the driver, led police on pursuit south toward Galt and then north to the Vintage Park neighborhood where with the help of California Highway Patrol and Sacramento County Sheriff's helicopters the suspects were apprehended after abandoning their vehicle. During the pursuit, the suspects allegedly discarded stolen property, which was recovered in Galt.

Both suspects will be arraigned on Monday, March 20. Schexnayder has bail set at $200,000 but is not eligible for release and Stephen's bail is $120,000.
