Elderly Domestic Violence Suspect Threatens Victim With Knife, Resist Arrests by Elk Grove Police

An elderly Elk Grove man is in custody at the Sacramento County Jail after alleged domestic violence where he resisted arrest.

In the early afternoon of Monday, June 28, Elk Grove Police officers were dispatched to a reported domestic violence incident. During the altercation between James Grant Lamar, 74, and his victim, the suspect struck his victim in the face and armed himself with a knife.

Lamar allegedly threatened his victim with injury and then lunged at the victim with the knife, The victim was able to escape the residence and contact police.

Upon contact with responding police officers, Lamar allegedly refused to follow instructions and retreated into a bedroom. An officer deployed a non-lethal beanbag shotgun round that struck Lamar, who then complied.

Lamar is being held on four felony and two misdemeanor charges, including domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest and as is being held on a bail of $50,000. Arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday, June 28. 

The victim of the incident was issued an emergency protective order.
