A suspect with several arrest warrants was taken into custody after he tried eluding police.

Late on the evening of Thursday, June 29 Joel Alonzo, 36, of Sacramento, was observed by Elk Grove Police officers hiding on the 8700 block of Inisheer Way. When officers attempted to contact Alonzo, he allegedly ran through several backyards.

After establishing a perimeter, Alonzo was observed climbing onto two different residential roofs. When Alonzo appeared in the front yard of a residence, officers recognized him from prior contacts and knew that he had several active felony warrants out for his arrest.

When confronted, Alonzo reportedly did not comply with instructions from the officers and a K-9 was deployed which led to his apprehension. After being medically cleared for incarceration, Alonzo was arrested and booked into the county jail.

Alonzo faces five misdemeanor and two felony charges and is not eligible for bail. Arraignment is scheduled for Monday, July 3.
