An Elk Grove man was taken into custody after he spat on a police officer following an alleged domestic violence incident.

On Saturday, July 15 Elk Grove Police officers responded to a domestic violence incident where the suspect, Joseph Anthony Montiel, 40, allegedly slapped his victim. When officers attempted to detain Montiel, he refused to step out of the residence.

After responding officers gained control of the suspect and placed him in handcuffs, he allegedly spat at the officer and began resistance. Montiel was placed in a restraint device, arrested and booked into the county jail.
