An Elk Grove man was arrested after he allegedly fired a weapon inside a residence and fled.

Just before midnight on Sunday, July 23 Elk Grove Police officers were dispatched to the 4700 block of Cleary Circle in Elk Grove's East Franklin neighborhood after Jerry Jessup, 43, had allegedly fired one round from a handgun inside the residence. There were two children inside of the residence at the time of the shooting.

After the suspect fired the round, he left the dwelling and when he exited, he was locked out. When responding officer arrive, Jessup had fled the residence and officers were unable to locate him.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on Monday, July 24, police were notified Jessup had returned to the residence but had subsequently fled. Later that morning Jessup was located at another residence and arrested for negligent discharge of a weapon and child endangerment.

After being booking at the county jail, Jessup was released on bail.
