The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department has made an arrest in the 2016 murder at a South Sacramento pot house.

At approximately 2 p.m. on Friday, June 30 sheriff’s Homicide detectives arrested Nicholas Stephan Valadez, 19, of Sacramento for the murder of 32-year-old Jessie Orozco which occurred on December 30, 2016. Valadez was already in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail since February 17, 2017, on unrelated drug and weapons charges.

In the late morning of December 30, 2016, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 5500 block of Enrico Boulevard in South Sacramento. Upon arrival, deputies located an unresponsive male victim, later identified as Orozco, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso and pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies also discovered was a marijuana cultivation operation inside the residence, and there appeared to be signs of forced entry into the residence. Detectives believe robbery was the motive, and that Valadez did not act alone.

Valadez was add-booked for murder and is currently ineligible for bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court on July 5, 2017.

Detectives are asking anyone with information relating to this incident, to contact the Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP. Tip information may also be left anonymously at www.sacsheriff.com or by calling (916) 874-TIPS (8477).
