Weekday DUI, Drivers License Checkpoint to be Conducted by Elk Grove Police

Friday, July 21, 2017 |

The Elk Grove Police Department has announced they will be conducting a DUI and driver's license checkpoint.

In a departure from standard operating procedure, the enforcement action will not be conducted on a weekend or holiday evening. Instead, the checkpoint will be held on the evening of Monday, July 24.

The enforcement will be held at an undisclosed location within Elk Grove city limits between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m on Tuesday, July 25. The checkpoint will focus on removing impaired drivers, as well as unlicensed drivers from the roadways.

Given the change legalizing recreational marijuana and outbreak of opioid addictions, impaired driving is not confined to driving under the influence of alcohol.

Funding for the sobriety checkpoint is provided through a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Grant that was made available by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
