A Yuba City, Calif. man with an outstanding arrest warrant is being held at the Sacramento County Jail after he led Elk Grove Police on a lengthy vehicle pursuit.

At approximately 10 p.m. on Friday, August 25, an Elk Grove Police patrol officer noticed a vehicle being operated near Calvine Road and Vintage Park Drive that was not displaying license plates. When the officer attempted an enforcement stop, the driver did not yield and led police on a 19-mile pursuit.

During the pursuit, the suspect, Jerry Joseph Kelley, 34, allegedly intentionally backed into the drivers door of the squad car. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Tactical Air Resource (STAR) helicopter assisted in the pursuit which ended when the vehicle was stopped after it struck a tire deflation device.

After Kelley was detained, a records search showed he had outstanding arrest warrants from Sutter County, Calif. and the vehicle he was operating had been reported stolen. Kelley is being held on a total bail of $235,000 for four felony charges for this incident, the two arrest warrants from Sutter County and is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday, August 29.
