First of Two Race Relations Meetings Sponsored by City of Elk Grove on Monday Night

22, 2017 |

On Monday, October 23, the City of Elk Grove will hold the first of its two sponsored meetings on race relations in the community.

The first meeting will be held at the Pavilion Building at Elk Grove Regional Park between 6 and 8 p.m. The second meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 30.

The meetings are being conducted after residents demanded action by the Elk Grove City Council following a spate of hate incidents in the city. Those incidents included the graffiti on a residence and threatening hate letter left at an African American owned business in Old Town Elk Grove.

In response to the demands, the city has scheduled the meeting that will allow participants to express their experiences with race relations in the city. Presentations will also be made by the Elk Grove Police Department and other city staff.

Among those attending will be Council Members Pat Hume and Darren Suen, who are hosting the meeting. The City has officially noticed the conference, so it is likely Mayor Steve Ly, Vice Mayor Steve Detrick, and Council Member Stephanie Nguyen will attend the proceedings.

More information about the event can be viewed here. Although the city is asking for registration, it is not required to attend.
