An instructional clinic for youth baseball players seeking to hone their skills before spring tryouts will be held in Elk Grove on Saturday, January 6.

The Elk Grove Baseball Clinic will focus on hitting, pitching, defensive and throwing mechanics to help players improve their baseball skills. The instructors for the clinic are Joe Sperle and Bill Pointdexter.

As assistant coach of Cosumnes Oaks High School's baseball team, Pointdexter has over 25 years of playing and coaching experience. Along with his coaching experience, Pointdexter serrved on the administrative board and as a director for the PONY West Regional in 2003-04 and was the All-Star manager for 11-year-old team in 2001 and helped run the Pacific Southwest Regional tournament in Elk Grove as the host city in 2001.

The clinic will be held at Bartholomew Park  and will be broken into two segments. Between 9 a.m.-12 p.m. is for players between 7 and 7-12; and from 1 to 4 p.m. will be dedicated to instruction for players 13 through 18.
