Suspect Arrested, Charged in 2017 Walnut Grove Murder

A suspect who was already in custody at the Sacramento County Jail, was arrested yesterday for a June 2017 murder.

Sacramento County Sheriff's Department arrested Steven Rejon, 19, of Sacramento for the June 8 murder of Demoria Ellis-Rivers of Sacramento. Ellis-Rivers' body was discovered by a worker in an orchard on Twin Cities Road just east of River Road.

The victim had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Walnut Grove Fire Department. Rejon was in custody at the jail on unrelated charges.

Rejon will be arraigned on the murder charges on Wednesday, February 7. In addition to the murder charge, Rejon faces a variety of felony charges including armed robbery, assault with a semiautomatic gun, attempted robbery, and attempted murder.
