Two Motorists Robbed, Pistol Whipped in Separate Incidents, One Suspect Arrested by Elk Grove PD

Elk Grove Police responded to two separate armed robberies of motorist and arrested a suspect in one of the incidents.

The first incident happened just after 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27 on the 70001 block of Elk Grove Boulevard. Two people were seated in a car when an unknown suspect approached the vehicle, opened one of the doors and pointed a firearm at one of the occupants.

The gunman told the victim to exit the vehicle and hit the victim several times with the firearm and demanded their property. The suspect pulled the victim from the vehicle and started kicking them. 

The victim was to escaped and called for police assistance. Responding officers arrived and checked the area and were unable to locate the suspect who was described as an African American male, who was covering his face with a hooded sweatshirt and bandana. 

The second incident occurred a little over 12 hours later just before 5 p.m. near the intersection of Bruceville Road and Elk Grove Boulevard. In this incident, the victim was stopped at a red light when a male passenger in another car exited, approached the victim's car, and pointed a firearm.

The victim exited his car and confronted the gunman. During a brief struggle, the gunman hit the victim with the firearm and then fled the area. Responding officers located a vehicle matching the description and initiated an enforcement stop. 

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded firearm. Police arrested Phillip Edward Drakesford, 24, of Elk Grove, who was then booked into the county jail.

Drakesford is being held on three misdemeanor and two felony charges with a $75,000 bail. Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, March 29.

Police said it is not known if Drakesford in connected to the early morning incident.
